Is your business showing up when people ask ChatGPT about you?

More and more buyers are skipping Google and going straight to AI tools. If your content isn't structured right, you're invisible. Here's how to fix that.

Is your business showing up when people ask ChatGPT about you?Is your business showing up when people ask ChatGPT about you?

A growing share of buyers now ask an AI tool a question instead of typing it into Google - "what's a good agency for a fintech MVP," "which app framework is faster to ship." If your business doesn't show up in that answer, you were never in the running. The visitor never saw a search results page to scroll past you on.

State the direct answer early in the paragraph, then explain it - not the other way around.

Why AI answer engines read differently than Google did

Classic SEO optimised for a ranking position: be in the top three blue links. AI answer engines don't return a list - they synthesise one answer from whichever sources they trust enough to draw from, and they lean hard on content that's already unambiguous about what it's claiming. A page that hedges, buries its actual point three paragraphs down, or relies on a nice-looking layout instead of clear sentences is easy for a human to skim and hard for a model to extract a clean answer from.

Structured data - Organization, Service, FAQ schema - matters more here, not less. It's the machine-readable version of "this is what we do, this is who we are," and it's one of the more reliable signals these systems use to decide a source is worth citing at all.

What actually changes in how you write

State the direct answer early in the paragraph, then explain it - not the other way around. Use the specific terms a buyer would actually type or say aloud, not the internal jargon your team uses for the same thing. And answer the question completely in one place rather than spreading the real answer across a funnel of five linked pages designed to maximise pageviews; an AI system won't follow that funnel, it will just skip the page that made it work for the answer.

The plain test

Ask an AI tool the exact question a prospective customer would ask about your category, today. If your business doesn't come up, that's not a ranking problem to fix next quarter - it's a content-clarity problem you can start fixing this week, one page at a time, starting with the page that answers your most common sales question.
